Man who embellished CV convicted of fraud

A man who embellished his CV in order to get a job at a hospital has been convicted of fraud and removed from his post.

Stirlingshire man Greig Ferguson claimed that he had worked at the fictional Chicago County General Hospital in order to land a role at Portsmouth's St Mary's Treatment Centre and remained there for over a year until doubts about his qualification emerged and he was removed following an investigation by an NHS fraud team.

He then landed a job at Spire Hospital in Southampton after claiming to have worked as a medic with the Royal Marines in Bosnia, the Gulf and Northern Ireland, when really he had only been employed as a nurse in Gosport, but his lies were soon uncovered.

Mr Ferguson, who pleaded guilty to two charges of fraud at Portsmouth Crown Court yesterday (February 15th), told the Scotsman: "Inflating my CV beyond the post I went for was a daft thing to do. If I had the chance again, I wouldn't have done what I did."

The prosecution comes after Lee Sutherland, 34, from Pontypridd in south Wales, last year admitted lying on his CV in order to gain a job with the Great Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust, which resulted in him receiving a £2,000 fine.
