Companies which provide applicants with vague job descriptions are putting themselves at a disadvantage by not preparing candidates for interviews, one expert has observed.
Employment specialist Nick Corcodilos said that firms are not doing themselves any favours by deliberately leaving job descriptions vague.
Rather than appealing to a broader range of candidates by being unclear about a role, a hazy job description may result in the applicant stumbling through an interview because they do not know what the role constitutes.
"Most job ads are loosely based on jargon-filled 'job requisitions' written by personnel jockeys. They're not very accurate," he said.
Mr Corcodilos added that this results in awkwardness between the recruiter and the candidate, something which could have been avoided if the firm used a free job descriptions tool.
The pitfall of not having a clear job description was recently highlighted by a worker who identified herself as Marisa, who told Smart Company that she eventually left her job due to problems stemming form a poor career description.
